Valuation of the Congress "Els paisatges de la vinya"

From the 24 to the 26 of October of the 2003 Manresa, capital of the region of the Bages, has been the seat of the congress "Els paisatges de la vinya". The project is been open to studies of the vine and the wine of all the Mediterranean area, of diferents aspects as they puden to be geography, history, arqueology, antropology, enology, the rural architecture, the folklore or the art, among other many aspects. All the set has formed a series of specific scopes of work about the vine: landscape and territory, patrimony, customs and traditions and modernity in century XXI.

The gestation of the project has had like main creators Centre d'Estudis del Bages, that commemoration its twenty-five anniversary and the Regulating Council of the Denomination of Pla de Bages.

One of the innovating bets of this Congress has been the edition printed in paper of Acts agreeing with the development of the same Congress, aspect this one that has entailed a effort to guarantee the presentation of them communications long before the encounter. This has not meant any impedimiento so that they have appeared a 40 of works of students and investigators who move in the surroundings of the vitivinícola world of the mediterranea area. The communications contributed to the different Congress come from places as they are France, Slovenia or Mexic, but, coverall, from territories of speech and Catalan culture. Whatever to the quality of the works presented/displayed to the Congress of Manresa, is possible to say that this has been well remarkable, emphasizing the novel and singular work of investigation and search, contributions of the west and, even, when it has been possible, the debate opened between all the assistants. Of this form, it has been to connect past, present and future, mixing different scopes of studies and investigation, with an only wire: the wine culture. The transversality of the studies presented/displayed about the vine allows to catch the value of a landscaping patrimony that comprises of the identity commune of places Mediterranean.

Taking advantage of the scientific encounter the Congress, also it has been organized, in the neuralgic center of the city, the first edition of the Fair Vinalia, a playful and festive sample of the wine tradition and wine producers and diggings of the DO Pla de Bages. This way, an active and representative exhibition of some old offices has been carried out craftsmen related to the world of the wine: aguardentista, wineskin maker, tinsmith, ceramist and, even, a craftsman of stone shelters, which to getting up a stone wall imitating the constructions that form our next landscape; also a sample of agricultural in miniature.

Equally interesting the supper celebrated in the School of Hoteleria Joviat, where the true protagonists were the wines of the Bages, accompanied perfectly with typical plates by the kitchen of pais.

The closing of the Congress, although climatologia was adverse, was developed with the visit guided in vehicles 4x4 the architectonic set of "Tines de l'Escudelleta", a sample of the singular patrimony that can be found in the Bages, coverall in the municipalities of Walls, Talamanca and the Pont de Vilomara and Rocafort. The bathtubs in the middle of the vines are exceptional in Catalonia, for this reason the Congress also has adhered to the initiative initiated by the Partnership of Valleys of the Montcau, with the purpose of asking for their total recovery and conservation to the Department of Culture of the Generalitat of Catalonia with the that all the set of bathtubs are declared well cultural of national interest.

TINES DE L'ESCUDELLETA

In another one, the days finalized with a visit guided the wine company Masies d'Avinyó, in order to observe on the land all the process of wine and in where one has become manifest which tradition and modernity can perfectly be compatible. Really, the celebration of a Congress on the landscapes of the wine, in general forms, is had to value positively. First of everything, so that initiatives like this are those that demonstrate the wealth and the singularity of a patrimony, often not had in account; secondly, because therefore our own self-esteem is revalued towards a phenomenon that returns to resurge with force in our house: the culture of the vine and the wine. The encounter also has served to vindicate the past vinícola of the region of the Bages, one of most important of Catalonia. A tradition which it returns to appear again of the hand of the DO Pla de Bages, that bets by the wine quality, to maintain varieties native of grapes, besides to harness the preservation of so characteristic the architectonic patrimony, the same one has defined our demarcation in last times.
