Semana Santa, Holly Week, is lived in Bailén in a religious spirit as the rest of andalusian cities do. It is remarkable the contest of saetas (typical religious chant) and the procession of Maria and Jesus meeting on a Friday before Palm Sunday.

The festival of Crosses of May (May 3) are celebrated with the installation in Bailén's most important streets a few crosses made of flowers or decorated with them.
And the different neighborhoods compete in order to make  the most beautiful cross  and appreciated. In the evenings from May 3 a fiesta  is celebrated there, with a lot of wine and music. Shawls of manila have supplanted to the esoteric memories.
The Sevillian songs  performed by  the public have to see nothing with the initiate songs of some millenniums ago . But certainly today like always the cross continues being especially in these days a in Andalusia ..... a shop window of our fullness of life

         

 

Commemorative festival  of Bailen's battel (17/07): En 1808, Bailén was the scene of the first defeat of the Napoleonic army; fact that, beside giving universality to the city, supposed the beginning of the end of the war of the Independence.

The Commemorative Festivals  of Bailén's battle, declared of tourist Andalusian interest in 1999, recall these events.

        

 

Fair of 5 August, Fair of  5 August, is aldo a religious festival for the Patron Saint the Virgin Of Zocueca

 

Piligrimage to Zocueca (latest Sunday in September ): The Virgin of Zocueca receives worship in the sanctuary that takes  its name. which  is sis kilometres  far from the city centre. Every lastest Sunday of September, the image of the Saint Patron  of Bailén moves From  the Parish  church of the Incarnation to its small temple  in Zocueca's village, in pilgrimage,  the image is led on  shoulders to its sanctuary.

 

After the religious acts, the pilgrims  spend an outdoor day that, in spite of its name (Zocueca means desolation and ruin), it is characterized by the festive environment and the happiness that affects the attendees.

 

Other Festivals  as the Carnivals  is  in February or March with contests  of  disguises and carnivals singing  groups to finish with  the  burial of the sardine; or the Celebration of the day of the Bonfires, setting  fires  in some of the Bailén's principal streets, it is celebrated On February 1 and 2.

 

On February 28, Day of Andalusia, diverse acts are held  as the hoisting of the Andalusian flag, and distribution  of products of the land, bread with oil.
